The Astronomical Society of Tasmania Inc. was founded in 1934 for amateur astronomers who share an interest in all aspects of astronomy and its related sciences. The Society has nearly a hundred members from all walks of life from throughout the state; the largest group of members is in Hobart, followed by Launceston. The Society's aim is to engender interest amongst members and the public in all branches of astronomy. Membership is open to anyone - including individuals, families and clubs - irrespective of age and other interests, and is recognised by the payment of an annual subscription.
