Public Astronomy Nights in Tasmania

Astronomy Public Open Night

Twice a year, the Astronomical Society of Tasmania and the University of Tasmania runs a public night, where the public can come and look through a wide variety of telescopes, talk to friendly people about the sky and have questions answered about astronomy.

The astronomical objects we view change seasonally, and range from the Moon and planets (such as Jupiter, Saturn, Mars and Venus) to star clusters and nebulae.
We also show a variety of displays, lectures and multimedia presentations to spark your interest!

Light refreshments are available.

All members of the public are invited and encouraged to join us for these events.

Public observing sessions, displays and lectures for special events are also conducted from time to time.
The AST may also be invited to conduct observing evenings for small private groups such as school classes or clubs, if individual members are available to volunteer, for which a donation is requested to cover costs.

Our next Public Open Night will be held on 10th May 2008
